Pattern Union’s New Molly Tee pdf Pattern

I recently had the opportunity to test the Molly Tee for Sarah at Pattern Union Patterns. Sarah is located in Australia and is a new to me designer. She has a background in the made-to-measure clothing industry and is teacher of fashion and design, as well.

I have not had great success with ready to wear boatneck style tops in the past. However, since learning how to do a forward shoulder adjustment that allow the shoulder seams to sit where they are intended on me, I wanted to give this one a shot. Plus, I really liked the styling of the shoulder seam on this design, as it is intended to sit forward from the traditional top of shoulder placement.

I made a size 12 graded to a 14 waist and hips and did a 1/2″ forward shoulder adjustment. The pattern also features 3 different bust sizes. I made mine in the A-B-C cup size. The Molly Tee can be made in varying sleeve lengths. I chose to make the elbow sleeve length, as I usually end up pushing my sleeves up anyhow, and it isn’t quite warm enough here for me to even think about short sleeves yet. There is also a thumb cuff sleeve option that would be interesting to try next fall when the weather starts getting chilly again in our part of the world.

I went through my stash of knit fabrics and eyed this blue and white striped blend of some unknown fibres, probably a poly/rayon/lycra blend from the feel of it. This was a buy I had made quite some time ago, intending to use it for my youngest daughter. She had gone through a phase of wanting everything I made for her to have stripes but this one never ended up getting used. I love the feel of this fabric and it just seemed to be made for a boatneck top so I used it for the Molly.

I even managed to do a fairly decent job of matching up the stripes. I do have a couple of other pieces of striped fabric and I just may have to sew some up for myself because I kind of like the look.

I will definitely be making more of these. The fit is quite feminine and flattering and is a great make for those 1 meter cuts that I have managed to pick up in the end of roll bins at the fabric store.

The Molly Tee is on sale for the month of May for $10 AUS.
