Watcha Wearin’ January Blog Tour – New Year’s Day with Kermit the Frog!

Today marks the first day of the new year and another first for me…my first blog tour! I am excited to be taking part in the Watcha Wearin’ January blog tour which is being hosted by Tibeca fromhttp://sewingbyti.blogspot.com.15732285_10209140761170834_3503836692557205043_o

The idea of this blog tour is that we showcase what we are wearing this month that is appropriate for our climates.Where I am, the month of January can easily be described as damn cold with lots of snow! It will also show how the bloggers in the tour incorporate handmade/me-made items in their everyday lives.

watcha-wearin-blog-tourThere will also be some really great prizes from our awesome sponsors, so be sure to click on the link at the end of this post to enter the rafflecopter drawing! Look at these great prizes packs!

Since yesterday was New year’s eve and we spent the evening enjoying time with our family and friends, today is going to be a day to just veg around the house.

I am going to do this in as much comfort as possible and wear the  Wardrobe by Me attire I have been working on for the last couple of months. I have blogged about the Trudy Turtleneck in a previous post but didn’t get around to sharing my his ‘n’ hers Ziggy Zip-up Hoodies or the Urban Joggers.

When I saw this lovely jewel-toned green fabric in the fabric store, I really liked it but wasn’t sure what I would make with it. I had never worked with sweatshirt fleece, either. A few days later, Christina, from Wardrobe by Me put out the tester call for a unisex hoodie pattern and I knew that this test was for me and high tailed it back to the store as soon as I knew how much fabric I would need for 2 hoodies.

The hoodies were quite easy to put together and provided a great opportunity to get some pics of the hubs and I, since our last pictures together were from over a year ago.

I actually had a fair bit of fleece left since I had just kind of guesstimated what I would need for 2 hoodies, so I decided to grab a copy of WbM’s Urban Joggers pattern. I had had my eye on these for a while and this was the perfect use for the remainder of the fabric!

I also decided that I would put an extra long yoga style waistband on these instead of the waistband that was called for. I have made a few pairs of pants in the last year and all of them have been just a bit shy of my preferred rise, as I like a higher rise. I didn’t need to, though, as these were perfect just as they were.

The next part of this ensemble came when Christina announced that she was going to be releasing a turtleneck pattern, which I reviewed here.

I really like the 1×1 ribbing I had used on the hoodies and I knew when I saw it that it would make a great turtleneck, so I headed back to the store and got some more. It is a really nice weight for a winter turtleneck and it is also really soft!

When I wore all of this together, hubby playfully teased me and said I was channelling my inner Kermit the Frog! What a guy!!! But I am really warm and comfortable and I REALLY like this colour. It falls into the colour family that I am working on building in my wardrobe, so it actually looks pretty good with a lot of my other makes!

I think this is the perfect way to kick off 2017!!!

I will be doing a weekly post in this blog tour, so be sure to subscribe so you can find out what else I will be wearing to keep warm and hopefully fashionable in the Great White North!!!

I want to wish all of you a very Happy New Year and I would love to hear what your plans are for including me-made items in your wardrobe!

  1. Love it Jenny. Its the perfect, I don’t care, I was up way too late last night, outfit. Fuzzy, warm. My outfit for today will be a bit more fancy, but we’re doing dinner at my parent’s tonight. Can’t wait to share it with the readers next Sunday.

  2. Love the green. Your outfit looks so comfy.I may have to try the jogger pants. They look like they would be very comfortable.

  3. I love to be comfy around the house too. Great sewing! I’m making a blouse first this year, and then a OneCardigan that I’ve been wanting for a while.
